So this morning, I took my own advice and browsed the Loyola Press Website. They have a section for stories about the lives of the Saints. It being St Nicholas’ Day, I looked for his story.

There is a children’s version and one for older people. Disappointingly neither have the tale of St Nicholas knocking down Arian in the street after hearing the latter’s heresy!

On 6th December we usually read the version from Bob Hartman’s Storyteller Christmas book but the details are the same.

I love reading these to my children, tonight won’t be any exception. It is a reminder to them and me of the vast crowd we are a part of, the Communion of Saints. Knowing the story has also helped explain why they have a satsuma in their stocking every Christmas morning!
