St Joseph was a man who loved without seeking attention. His love for Mary was faithful and selfless, and he loved Jesus with the tenderness of a father. It’s therefore not surprising that this love protected the Holy Family in times of uncertainty, danger, and hardship.

We look to St Joseph not because of his words, but because his life exemplifies trust, bravery, and unwavering love. In times when our path is uncertain, when heavy burdens bear down on us, and darkness feels near, St Joseph reminds us that holiness is often revealed in quiet faithfulness to God. Though he is often remembered as strong, silent, and self-reliant, the Gospels suggest something deeper: a man who knew how to receive help as well as give it.

When the Holy Family fled into Egypt, Joseph would almost certainly have relied on the kindness of strangers. As a carpenter arriving in a foreign land, he would have needed people willing to offer work, guidance, shelter, and friendship. The God who entrusted His Son to Joseph did not spare him from human dependence; rather, He allowed him to experience it, teaching us that true strength is not found in standing alone, but in trusting God enough to accept the support He provides through others.

St Joseph is often remembered as the quiet protector of the Holy Family: a faithful husband, a loving father, and a man of unwavering trust in God. Yet his strength was not found in standing alone. Throughout his life, Joseph learned to depend upon God’s providence and to receive support from those whom God placed around him.

In our own day, many men carry burdens silently. We strive to support our families, serve our communities, and remain faithful to Christ, yet we can sometimes forget that God never intended us to walk the journey alone.

With this in mind, I invite the men of our parish to join the renewed Men of St Joseph. This is not a society of experts, nor a gathering for those who have all the answers. It is a fellowship of ordinary Catholic men seeking to grow in faith, prayer, friendship, and service. Together, we will encourage one another, learn from the example of St Joseph, and support one another in living our vocation as Christian men.

Whether you are a husband, father, grandfather, single man, young adult, or someone in the later years of your life, you’re warmly welcome. Come as you are. Bring your experiences, questions, hopes, and even your struggles. Like St Joseph, we seek not perfection but faithfulness.

Let us walk together as brothers in Christ, supporting one another as we strive to become the men God calls us to be. Our first meeting will be held on Tuesday 15 September 2026, at 7:00pm. Come and join us as we begin this new chapter together in prayer, fellowship, and faith.
