Stand

Reader: A reading from the Gospel according to Luke (23:33–34)
And when they came to the place which is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on the right and one on the left. And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments.

Sit/Kneel

Leader:
Jesus gave himself for us perfectly atoning for our sins. His love lacked nothing. By having complete faith in him we can be completely forgiven for all our transgressions. His crime was political, arranged to perpetuate the power of his accusers. Despite Jesus’ apparent powerlessness, he is the one who will forgive and prevail.

Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, grant us a heart that is open, fully open to your love so we may never feel abandoned, and let us receive the Holy Spirit so we will have a place of refuge in your house. Amen.

All stand
