Sometimes it is all to easy — even without thinking — to find ourselves following the voice of the world at large. The way of discipleship isn’t the easy way and may well lead us into a position where we find ourselves in direct opposition to the world.

Christ directly addresses the disciples’ fear. They need no longer hide in an attempt to cover their fear, shame and alienation from God, a result of the Fall. They are to be reclothed with a dignity that belongs only to those who are the children of God.

In an act of faith and obedience, both widows in our readings had to give up and let go of what little they had in this life to be able to receive the blessings of God’s eternal graces. We are called to do the same.

We are confronted with the decision as to whether we are willing continue to follow Christ and receive him with our heart, mind and spirit that will lead either to eternal life or continual alienation. However, demanding though this decision is one can understand the words of Peter, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”

God is love
